What is Flipped Learning? How do students learn their parts?

Flipped learning allows students to use learning media such as videos and backing tracks to give students more control and flexibility of their learning. In the Flipped Strings Method, students can read the melody and ensemble parts and hear those parts in a video – accessible by QR code for the hardcopy books and embedded in the iBooks – just tap on the thumbnail and the video will play full screen on your device.

How do the Melody & Ensemble Parts Work Together?

Students:

Students – violin, viola, cello or double bass – can play the melody part for any of the pieces with the backing track. But students can also play a duet with a friend – one plays the melody part and the other student plays the ensemble part and it works as a duet.

Teachers & School Ensembles:

The hardcopy books or iBooks can work together in a full string ensemble – or string quartet or orchestra. If you purchase our pack of 10 or 20 hardcopy books in any combination you choose – for example 10 violins, 2 violas, 4 cellos & 2 double basses, then you have a full ensemble pack with 10 pieces teaching students about time signatures, key signatures, musical expression and concepts such as modulation (key changes) PLUS, students on any of those instruments can also play the melody part at home with the backing track if they want to. If 1st violins play the melody violin part, 2nd violins play ensemble violin, violas play ensemble viola, cellos play cello ensemble and double basses play ensemble double bass, then this will form an orchestral arrangement.

In countries other than Australia, students and teachers can purchase the iBook version of the Flipped Strings Method Level 2 and use it either by themselves to learn the melody part for each piece and/or form a school string ensemble using a combination of melody and ensemble parts in the iBooks.
